World famous artists get creative for Mencap
Mencap has joined forces with Nokia and The Times magazine to create a photographic exhibition featuring work by some of the world's leading photographers and artists such as David Bailey, Tracey Emin and Jack Vettriano. 25/10/2004
A selection of images from the exhibition, entitled fonetography, will be auctioned at a private launch party on 16 November to raise funds for Mencap, the UK's leading learning disability charity.
Contributing artists, who also include fashion photographer, Rankin and Sir Peter Blake, were given the simple brief ‘to capture the moment' using the new Nokia 7610, Nokia's first one megapixel camera phone.
Mencap Chief Executive, Jo Williams said, "We are very excited by this high profile exhibition. It is a great opportunity to highlight the vital work Mencap does to support children and adults with a learning disability. A heartfelt thanks to all the artists who have contributed to help raise all important funds for Mencap.”
Mirko Aksentijevic, Business Manager Multimedia, Nokia added, "We are absolutely delighted with the calibre of professionals who are supporting this event to raise money and awareness for Mencap.”
The exhibition opens at the AOP gallery in Shoreditch, London on Wednesday 17 November and will run through to Saturday 27 November.
