The German Disability Equality Act’s task is to make authorities, schools, websites and services accessible for every disabled person. What the laws have achieved down to the present day is shown in the Topic of the Month April: Equality Act Put to the Test.
After five years of Equality Act for the Disabled one thing is obvious: The German government achieved a lot. However, where the law for accessibility comes to fruition at federal level many states lag behind.

Since May 2002 there is the German Federal Disability Equality Act (BGG) which aims to provide access for handicapped people. This law says that organisations for disabled persons and companies can make target agreements. Although this instrument could bring a lot of positive changes for handicapped ones it has been hardly used during the past five years. REHACARE.de asked Karin Evers-Meyer, Federal Commissioner for the Interests of the Disabled, about the reasons and what it is planned to changed it.
