Whether a barn from the 18th century or the medieval town wall on which borders a modern residential home for handicapped people – even historical walls can be altered without barriers. Preservationists are not happy when somebody wants to change historic architectural monuments. If the buildings are to be made completely accessible, strict laws for the conservation of historic monuments hit strict standardization norms for accessibility. It is possible to bring them in line, though. It just requires some creativity.

Old meets new: Up to now the subject accessibility and preservation of historic buildings was considered to be badly compatible among architects. Nevertheless, this opinion is changing. If builders know a lot about construction without barriers and old buildings, it can even become a lucrative business.
