REHACARE.de talked to Elena O'Meara about happiness, her desires and spontaneous love confessions.
REHACARE.de: What makes you get up in the morning?
Elena O'Meara: For my son and the hope that today he will have a good day at school.
REHACARE.de: What is your favorite place and why?
Elena O'Meara: My bed, where I can read a good book in peace and quiet.
REHACARE.de: Who or what impresses you?
Elena O'Meara: People who have the courage to follow through with their convictions and who use common sense to guide them through life.
REHACARE.de: What is your most valuable possession?
Elena O'Meara: The love of my family.
REHACARE.de: What are you fed up with?
Elena O'Meara: Total strangers, who – although they have no idea about Autism and what it makes a person do - give well meaning, but often completely useless suggestions on how to educate my son.
REHACARE.de: What makes you relax the most?
Elena O'Meara: Wrapped in a snuggly blanket and a good book.
REHACARE.de: What makes you happy?
Elena O'Meara: When my son Derek tells me out of the blue that he loves me. People with Autism usually never or very rarely do this.
REHACARE.de: Is there something you should throw away, but won’t?
Elena O'Meara: Old jewellry which is broken and useless, but has romantic value.
REHACARE.de: Name three things that make for a fulfilled life!
Elena O'Meara: To love, to be loved and to do good deeds.

REHACARE.de: When was the last time you felt blown away by something?
Elena O'Meara: When my mom told me that she did not have a heart attack and that everything is OK.
REHACARE.de: What questions would you like to know the answer to?
Elena O'Meara: Why do so many bad things happen in the world?
REHACARE.de: When was the last time you felt like hiding from something?
Elena O'Meara: I really cannot remember. Maybe back when I was still a vain teenager and didn’t like the way I looked. The older I get, the prouder I am of my family and me and therefore have no reason to hide.
REHACARE.de: What makes a person rich?
Elena O'Meara: Family, friends and well-being.
REHACARE.de: What is your philosophy of life?
Elena O'Meara: Even when fate has given you a beating in all areas of life, there still remains the mental attitude with which you shall overcome it all.
REHACARE.de: Who else should we be asking these questions of?
Elena O'Meara: People living in troubled regions, who have much less material things than we do.
