Philanthropist Ruth Altshuler and former Dallas Cowboy stars Emmitt Smith and Roger Staubach will be serving as honorary chairs for the "Dancing with a Vision" dinner-dance on September 20 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas.

The black-tie event is being held to support the American Foundation for the Blind Center on Vision Loss and All Stars Helping Kids.

Phyllis George, First Lady of Kentucky, will be emcee for the programme, which includes a dance performance by Emmitt Smith, winner of the "Dancing with the Stars" television competition, an exhibition dance by professional dancers Sergey and Michelle, and another by the Dallas Summer Musicals School of Musical Theater. American pop singer—and former "Dancing with the Stars" competitor—Willa Ford, will also attend the event.

An auction with only five very special unusual items will be conducted by professional auctioneer Louis Murad, with ad lib assistance from Mrs. Altshuler, Mr. Smith, and Mr. Staubach.

The American Foundation for the Blind Center on Vision Loss, and its online component, AFB Senior Site, were created to help older Americans and their family members cope with age-related eye diseases—a growing public health problem in this country.

At the Dallas Center visitors can walk through a model vision loss-friendly apartment, try out the various low- and high-tech gadgets in a realistic home setting, get ideas for modifications they can make in their own homes, and find out where to obtain the products.

All Stars Helping Kids was founded in 1989 by Ronnie Lott. It is a National Community Fund that pools the resources of athletes, individual donors, and corporate partners interested in transforming the lives of millions of disadvantaged children.

"Everyone at the event will be dancing for two important causes benefiting seniors and children," said Judy Scott, Director of AFB Center on Vision Loss.
