REHACARE.de talked to the articulate Christian Besau about happiness, his desires and music.

REHACARE.de: What makes you get up in the morning?
Christian Besau: A good breakfast and the curiosity for a brand-new day, during which anything can happen.

REHACARE.de: What is your favorite place and why?
Christian Besau: A vagabond loves the place where he currently is.

REHACARE.de: Who or what impresses you?
Christian Besau: Elvis, Forest Gump in the movie of the same title.

REHACARE.de: What is your most valuable possession?
Christian Besau: The VHF radio that’s next to my bed. Nothing can bring far away, sad and happy people together like the right song playing on the radio, that can be heard by all at the same time.

REHACARE.de: What are you fed up with?
Christian Besau: With people who rise themselves above others to deflect from their own inner poverty. This creates injuries and unfairness in big and small realms.

REHACARE.de: What makes you relax the most?
Christian Besau: Going for a walk, making music, a good book and eating Aachener Printen (= spiced gingerbread biscuits from the town of Aachen).

REHACARE.de: What makes you happy?
Christian Besau: To be at or in the ocean, to live.

REHACARE.de: Is there something you should throw away, but won’t?
Christian Besau: A tape dictating machine, complete with a recorded tape with well wishes, which friends and work colleagues gave me as a farewell gift.

REHACARE.de: Name three things that make for a fulfilled life!
Christian Besaur: Love, the sun on your face, my music collection.

REHACARE.de: When was the last time you felt blown away by something?
Christian Besau: At the births of my children David and Mairi and during my singing performance in a factory for people with mental disabilities.

REHACARE.de: What questions would you like to know the answer to?
Christian Besau: Why are social systems only half-heartedly fixed, instead of being bravely challenged? Why does human communication seem to get more superficial, the better communication systems get? Why don’t more people feel like this? Or maybe they do?

REHACARE.de: When was the last time you felt like hiding from something?
Christian Besau: About 20 years ago, when I played hooky from school with a companion and we had to hide under a trampoline. Afterward I vowed never to hide from something again.

REHACARE.de: What makes a person rich?
Christian Besau: Friends, memories, the knowledge that each new day is a new chance, a song.

REHACARE.de: What is your philosophy of life?
Christian Besau: I am not taking too few steps, rather I take one step too many, because I still have time to rest later on.

REHACARE.de: Who else should we be asking these questions of?
Christian Besau: Bob Dylan and Guido Westerwelle, of course for different reasons.
