REHACARE.de talked to Thomas Hoffmarck, who is paraplegic since an accident working downhole 20 years ago, about happiness, his desires and ex-wives.

REHACARE.de: What makes you get up in the morning?
Thomas Hoffmarck: I get up for me... To live, to make a difference and to overcome obstacles.

REHACARE.de: What is your favorite place and why?
Thomas Hoffmarck: Thailand, Fuerteventura, Turkey – people there live simply and are friendlier.

REHACARE.de: Who or what impresses you?
Thomas Hoffmarck: God and people who put things into practice and change the world.

REHACARE.de: What is your most valuable possession?
Thomas Hoffmarck: My life, my belief in God, my determination, strength and interest in life.

REHACARE.de: What are you fed up with?
Thomas Hoffmarck: With people that are dishonest and chatterboxes.

REHACARE.de: What makes you relax the most?
Thomas Hoffmarck: Being in a sauna.

REHACARE.de: What makes you happy?
Thomas Hoffmarck: Success, to have accomplished something for other people, and my children (who live with my ex-wife).

REHACARE.de: Is there something you should throw away, but won’t?
Thomas Hoffmarck: Yes, my ex-wives, because they took my children away from me.

REHACARE.de: Name three things that make for a fulfilled life!
Thomas Hoffmarck: Love, success and hope.

REHACARE.de: When was the last time you felt blown away by something?
Thomas Hoffmarck: In 2004, I became the European long distance marathon champion and have met people who lived with nothing, but still made it – just like it is in Africa or in Thailand.

REHACARE.de: What questions would you like to know the answer to?
Thomas Hoffmarck: I just want honesty in humanity...

REHACARE.de: When was the last time you felt like hiding from something?
Thomas Hoffmarck: Never... I will not ever hide from anything. People should feel my strength and get that handicapped people are able to create meaningful things. Take a look and start waking up.

REHACARE.de: What makes a person rich?
Thomas Hoffmarck: Nothing, except for a healthy life. Money makes things easier, but you can also get by with little money. Health is the most important thing.

REHACARE.de: What is your philosophy of life?
Thomas Hoffmarck: Nothing is impossible. Where there is a will, there is a way. I will not be backed into a corner – if anything I push somebody off the road. There is a lot to do, let’s do it together...

REHACARE.de: Who else should we be asking these questions of?
Thomas Hoffmarck: Everyone that lives on this beautiful Earth. Many people just go through this world with their eyes shut, do not have any courage to face life, no self-worth, no hope and no goals. There is always a way.
