The future of downhill mountain biking – in our humble opinion. Weve tested this out on some pretty gnarly hills and the results are “who put tarmac on the downhill section?” – Translated to “That ride was so smooth, Im pretty sure I dreamt it.”
OK, when can I have it? Well. theres an old saying that good things come to those who wait. The future is not here yet.
Mountain bike suspension is traditionally provided through suspension forks. Its good, but it could be better. Loopwheel technology responds to uneven terrain in a different way. Loopwheels constantly adjust to every change in surface encountered. Putting suspension INSIDE a wheel makes a hell of a lot of sense on a fast downhill trail with rocks, bumps and roots at every turn.
Ever since we launched our first small loopwheels for folding bikes in 2013, people have been asking us if we can make loopwheels for mountain bikes. At the same time, wheelchair users asked us if we could make loopwheels for wheelchairs to help them roll on uneven pavements and off-road more easily and comfortably. Were a small company, and we knew we couldnt do both at the same time. Listening to people telling us about the difficulties and pain they experience in their wheelchairs, especially when being jolted or facing a kerb, we decided that making a loopwheel for wheelchairs was our first priority, and we were delighted to launch our loopwheels for wheelchairs in 2015. Theyre bringing a lot of joy to a lot of people, and were very happy about that.
Meanwhile, yes, we have also designed a larger loopwheel, with disc brake mounting, for mountain bikes. We have prototype wheels, and riding them is truly awesome. Were not putting a date on availability, but youll know about it when it happens. Were taking our time to get things right, including the launch plan. Because we believe thats the right way of doing it, and that the end result will be all the better for it.
