Loopwheels for Wheelchairs

For greater comfort and independence

Loopwheels are designed to help you push over uneven streets, cobbles, grass, rough tracks and gravel paths, with less effort.

The composite springs give you extra power to get up or down kerbs. Loopwheels are more comfortable than standard wheels: they absorb tiring vibration, as well as bumps and shocks. They naturally adjust for uneven camber – the slope on the side of a road. With standard quick release axles and two sizes (24″ and 25″), loopwheels fit most manual wheelchairs.

All our wheels are individually made by us in Nottinghamshire, England. For a list of where you can buy loopwheels for wheelchairs, check out our stockists page.

We usually hold all colours of wheels in stock and aim to make up your order individually within one week. Certain push rims can take longer as we may need to order them in, if we don’t hold them in stock. If you want to check availability before you order, please email us!

We are the UK distributor for CarboLife push rims. These are cleverly designed ergonomic push rims, from Germany. We can supply these fitted to loopwheels or you can buy them from us with tab fittings for other wheels too.

We reinvented the wheel, so you can tackle any path ahead.

Commuter Bike

The first loopwheels product we made were 20 inch loopwheels. We launched them in 2013 on folding bike frames made by Dahon, the best-selling brand of folding bikes. Getting to work on your bike is better for your health and the environment – and often it’s faster too. But city roads have bumps and potholes, and many folding bikes have no suspension. We wanted you to love your commute to work. And with loopwheels on your bike, you do: cobbles and potholes are no longer a problem.  We chose to put our suspension wheels onto one of the most popular folding bike frames in the world, the Dahon Mu. It’s a simple, clean design that has good geometry for a wide range of people. We found our whole family could ride these bikes happily, because with a quick and simple adjustment of the seat post you can adjust the height for people from 142 to 193 cm (4’8″ – 6’4″).

But even at our very first launch show in 2013, people started asking us if we could make loopwheels for wheelchairs. More and more people kept enquiring, and we soon realised people really needed suspension wheels on their wheelchairs. That’s because jolting, vibration and getting over uneven pavements can be a real daily struggle if your equipment doesn’t help you. So we developed new loopwheels specifically for wheelchair users. We launched them in 2015, and sales of the wheelchair loopwheels soon overtook the bikes.

The Original Loopwheels bike will always remain a fantastic all-round get-on-and-enjoy-it commuter bike, but we took the decision to stop making the 20 inch loopwheels in 2016, in order to focus fully on wheelchair wheels.

If you’re one of our original bike customers – lucky you! We still keep some spare parts in case of need. But if you missed the opportunity to have a loopwheels bike, we’re sorry. We no longer make 20 inch wheels and we have no more loopwheel folding bikes in stock.

Keep in touch with us, as we do plan new products in the future.

Loopwheels, for a smoother ride. Because sometimes it’s good the reinvent the wheel . . .

Loopwheels MTB

The future of downhill mountain biking – in our humble opinion. We’ve tested this out on some pretty gnarly hills and the results are “who put tarmac on the downhill section?” – Translated to “That ride was so smooth, I’m pretty sure I dreamt it.”

OK, when can I have it? Well. there’s an old saying that good things come to those who wait. The future is not here yet.

Mountain bike suspension is traditionally provided through suspension forks. It’s good, but it could be better. Loopwheel technology responds to uneven terrain in a different way. Loopwheels constantly adjust to every change in surface encountered. Putting suspension INSIDE a wheel makes a hell of a lot of sense on a fast downhill trail with rocks, bumps and roots at every turn.

Ever since we launched our first small loopwheels for folding bikes in 2013, people have been asking us if we can make loopwheels for mountain bikes. At the same time, wheelchair users asked us if we could make loopwheels for wheelchairs to help them roll on uneven pavements and off-road more easily and comfortably. We’re a small company, and we knew we couldn’t do both at the same time. Listening to people telling us about the difficulties and pain they experience in their wheelchairs, especially when being jolted or facing a kerb, we decided that making a loopwheel for wheelchairs was our first priority, and we were delighted to launch our loopwheels for wheelchairs in 2015. They’re bringing a lot of joy to a lot of people, and we’re very happy about that.

Meanwhile, yes, we have also designed a larger loopwheel, with disc brake mounting, for mountain bikes. We have prototype wheels, and riding them is truly awesome. We’re not putting a date on availability, but you’ll know about it when it happens. We’re taking our time to get things right, including the launch plan. Because we believe that’s the right way of doing it, and that the end result will be all the better for it.

If you’d like to be one of the first to receive news about loopwheels for MTBs, sign up to our mailing list using the link on this page. You may need to be patient, but we believe you’ll agree it was worth the wait.
